For the first time in 25 years, the Woods Hole Daycare Cooperative is seeking a new Preschool Director to lead our community of educators, children and families. In this rewarding position you will be surrounded by dedicated educators and involved families committed to continuing our tradition of excellence and enrichment since 1980.

Your successful experiences in the field of early childhood care and education, combined with business or nonprofit management and organizational expertise will be a valuable and appreciated asset to our school. The director is aided by the Co-op’s parent board of directors and parent involvement, allowing the director to spend time teaching in the classroom in addition to the administrative role.

Director Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

Operations

  • Responsibility for the health, safety, education, and general well-being of the children while they are at the center.
  • Authority for day-to-day operating decisions (conforming to basic policies of Board of Directors).
  • Coordination of overall schedule of activities for the children, within the policy guidelines set by the Board of Directors, (EEC), and the Department of Public Health (DPH) in the summer.
  • Must see that the center meets EEC, (winter months) and DPH (summer months) standards for safety, administration, children’s records, activities, and student/teacher ratios.
  • Responsible for keeping records, including children’s folders (change in schedule forms and medical files on all children), time sheets for the staff, and staff folders. This responsibility is shared with the teachers.

Enrollment

  • Keeping waitlist up to date, filling slots, and scheduling visits with prospective families.
  • Responsible for overall registration paperwork that includes all handbooks and registration/enrollment.
  • Communicates with the parents regularly about events and parent responsibilities.

Staffing

  • Responsible for scheduling all staff hours, regular and substitute hours.
  • Responsible for chairing all screening and hiring committees for all teachers, assistants and substitutes.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews, and has responsibility for training, orientation and conflict resolution for all staff members.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings.

Director Requirements

  • Proven leadership and teaching experience at an early childhood care facility.
  • Compliance with state licensing standards at the director level, including but not limited to criminal background screening and fingerprinting (prior to start date May 2020).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of national and state education standards, licensing requirements, and procedures.
